I just dug up an eleven-year-old idea for a logo for the Special Olympics. It’s nothing earth-shaking, but hopefully it will make a few folks laugh…or at least go; “Hmmmm.”
So digging around on my D:\ drive, I stumbled upon and old, old Visio file from way back in 1997. Evidently we had been working on a clip-art stencil at the time and I just couldn’t resist messing around.
Also, Visio has a neat Fragment feature, which lets you slice shapes up where they intersect. And this feature was put to ample use in making this logo. For as simple as it looks, it actually takes a bit of work.
Because of the way the wheels intertwine, you can’t just plop five shapes on a page. You have to cut them up to get the weaving to look correctly.
The logo wasn’t intended to be insensitive in anyway. It was just an exercise at playing with some graphics software and executing a fairly obvious visual idea.
I hope nobody will take it as offensive, but we live in overly-sensitive times, so it’s good to be careful.
And although it’s a fairly obvious idea, I think it is kind of cool to actually see it:

I just LOVE what you have done to the Olympic symbol!!! I even used it in a school project for the ADA. This was by far the most creative Special Olympic Logo I have ever seen!!!
