Remember Springsteen’s classic album: Born in the USA? That album cover with the rugged workin’ man in his blue jeans and crumpled t-shirt. His workin’ cap stuffed nonchalantly in his back pocket, while Old Glory watches over him in the background.
Well, I too was born in the good ole US ‘n A. In a workin’ town. A wet one.
Sitting comfortably tucked away in the Pacific Northwest at 48.118 N, -123.429 W, Port Angeles lies about 80 miles northwest of Seattle, as the crow flies.
It’s a sleepy paper-mill and logging town, with a population of 18,397, and is surrounded by spectacular nature: mountains, forests, rivers, ocean, and it’s just a 20-mile ferry ride from fabulous Victoria, British Columbia.
Despite being partially in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains, it still gets plenty of windy, rainy days. While the loggers are likely to have that same red cap stuffed into their pockets, like old Bruce here:
Citizens of Port Angeles are just as likely to be packing umbrellas.

I think I took the photo ca. 2001. Interesting to see how jeans styles have changed in the interim!
