Warning Label Mod…kann tödlich sein

In Germany, it’s all the craze to modify those cigarette warning labels. (Yeah, I know, them wacky Germans!)

At the local gas station, you can buy “cozies” to slip over your pack and conceal that awful reminder that smoking turns you green.

And those marketing postcards that you get in the back of pubs have gotten into the game too. One had peel-off stickers that you could adhere to your pack, thus replacing a frightening warning with an offensive advertisement. Bloody clever!

And the warnings aren’t just on cigarette packs, they’re on match boxes too! As if all matches are used explicitly for lighting cigarettes, and all match-users will be doomed to a miserable and prolonged death if they don’t repent.

Now my wife and I don’t smoke, but we still keep a lot of matches about the house…

…most of them in the bathroom, hopefully I don’t need to elaborate.

And in this particular room, one’s mind has time to wonder as one stares at the ominous warning on the original match box:

Hm…

Hmm…

Hmmm…

With the aid of my ThinkPad T61p, Visio 2007 Professional, my trusty HP 2600n printer, and a stick of UHU, this was a no-brainer.

The final match box:

Estimated mod time: 10 minutes, including wake-up from Suspend Mode.

Lexicon

Rauchen = to smoke

Tödlich = deadly

Sein = to be

The rest I’ll leave up to you!
